RIBA Royal Institute of British Architects


The Institues recommends that chartered members are obliged to undertake at least 35 hours of CPD. 20 of the required 35 hours must come from the ten topics in the RIBA CPD Core Curriculum (two hours per topic per year). They regularly monitor a random sample of chartered members’ records to determine compliance.

Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE)

Association of Building Engineers (ABE)


All members of the CABE are reminded of their obligation to fulfil 35 hours of CPD each subscription year, however our events are not exclusively for members. We welcome all professionals seeking to increase their knowledge and understanding of the industry. The association makes random checks to ensure members are fulfilling their CPD requirements.

Institution of Structural Engineers


Members are expected to complete 30 hours of CPD each year. All CPD undertaken must be reported to the Institution annually. The institute provides an online CPD tool for members to log their CPD activities. Annual CPD returns are required from all membership grades.

Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH)


All Chartered Members are required to undertake 20 hours, with at least half being inter-agency activities/training. You can log into your CPD account through the ‘MyCIH’ area of the CIH website where you can add your own professional development and inter-agency activities. CIH will randomly review individual members’ CPD.

Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate of Great Britain (ICWGB)


All practising members (not retired members or honorary grades) are required to carry out the ICWCI mandatory minimum of 18 hours per annum of CPD. The Institute asks a random selection of practicing members to submit their CPD records for review.

The Institute recommends members complete 30 hours of CPD per annum, but this is not compulsory. Recorded CPD information on to CIOB website.Those who don’t record CPD info on to Ciob website will be randomly selected for audit. Disciplinary proceedings are generally bought when there are issues over conduct rather than technical capabilities.
