Regulator: The Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)Mandatory
In order to remain on the register, all CNHC registered practitioners are required to participate in CPD, which is defined as “a range of learning activities through which professionals grow and develop throughout their careers to ensure that they retain their capacity to practise safely, effectively and legally within their evolving scope of practice”.
The CNHC regulates the following therapies, each of which has one or more professional body that supports CPD:
- Alexander Technique training
- Bowman Therapy
- Massage Therapy
- Microsystems Acupuncture
- Nutritional Therapy
- Sports Therapy
- Yoga Therapy
CNHC requires registrants to undertake at least 15 hours of CPD a year.
A minimum of 10 hours must be directly related to each discipline registered.
CPD must involve a range of learning activities, with no more than a third of total CPD hours being spent on a single activity in any one year.
CNHC registered practitioners must keep an up-to-date log of their CPD activities with evidence to demonstrate their participation in each activity.
At renewal, each CNHC registered practitioner must confirm that they have completed their CPD log for the year, and provide full details if requested by CNHC.
If you cannot/do not complete the number of hours required, CNHC will seek information as to why its requirements have not been met. Advice will be offered to enable you to complete your CPD over an agreed period of time. Should it still not be possible to meet the standards, registration will lapse until such time as they are met.
