Are You Limited By How Much Training You Can Deliver?

Most small training providers are limiting their growth because key staff are required to deliver all the training and their time is limited.  This article covers different ways that you can free these staff from delivering all the training and so allow the business to grow by providing more training.

If your training is delivered by one or two key people, you may find that your business is unable to grow as these people are unable to deliver more training. There are various strategies you can adopt by restructuring your training and removing the dependence on key staff to deliver everything.  These three different strategies will help.

Adopt a training process.

Restructure training courses so that they all follow standard processes.  This means that common elements will be taught the same way in different courses.  It means that once a trainer understands the elements for one course, they will be able to deliver those elements in another course. CPD Accreditation can help here as part of the assessment process helps you to structure your training into these elements.

Delegate standard elements of the training

Once you have restructured your training as described above, you can now allow other trainer to deliver some of the more standard modules, allowing you to focus your time and energy on the authoritative, critical modules that require your specific expertise.

You will then be able to deliver more training in the same time as others are doing the “standard stuff”.  But, more importantly, as you are focusing on delivering only the key elements, you can devote more time and energy to these elements, meaning your training delegates get a better experience and more value from your training.

Use time efficient ways to deliver part of your training

There are lots of strategies to use technology and better planning to break up training programs to make them more time efficient whilst delivering a better training experience for delegates:

  • Set pre-work, research and reading to be completed prior to the training
  • Move some of the content on-line for delegates to complete either prior to or following the course
  • Use Skype or conference calls prior to and after the training to set expectations, answer questions and embed learning

These suggestions are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to restructuring your training courses.  Here at the CPD Standards Office, we work with organisations every day to help them improve their training.  And we can do the same for you too.
